Collisions

“Collisions” is a research piece and explores the idea of memories, time, and distance. The aim is to create moments, memories, and movements between the artists that can be visited again and again over an unlimited (or at least undetermined) amount of time. We are creating a dance that we can visit, revisit, recycle, discard, change, and renew. The dances are short and brief, but also deep and vast like a vivid memory. We work on roof tops, in living rooms, parks, kitchens, alley ways, and yes even studios.

Collisions is a grand experiment which I began in 2013 and is ongoing. Since then there has been two installments of the piece (in 2013 and 2015) made possible by the generosity of Summer Lee Rhatigan and SFCD. Collisions was also presented in the San Francisco Tiny Dance Flim Festival and the San Francisco Summer Dancer Series in 2015. We collided all the solos in one evening, with warm lights and a warm audience. My hope for this project is that it can continue and we can make our moments to remember in our minds, on film, in rehearsal, or in performance. When our paths cross and luck is on our side, we can continue to create and find beauty and meaning in the moment that we collide.
